The elephant has wrinkles, but the pants don't.

Most of the old days' advertisements are more interesting as compared to todays' advertisements. Those days were days when TV was a luxury and had no Internet, the only media they had was perhaps the newspapers, magazines or posters. While big brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior were spending big bucks to send journalists travel around the world so they could feel and immerse in the atmosphere and message the brands would like to convey, these kind of advertisements were no less interesting than what we see today as well!

ONE. Kleinert's Swim Caps, 1962

I'm not sure whether this kind of swim cap would not attract much attention today, but it just reminds me of many things, like pineapples, roasted marshmallow, dragon fruit... #justsayin I'm quite curious at how this cap is going to work though!

TWO. Maidenform Bras, 1961

Does this not look sexier, wilder and stronger than today's advert from Victoria's Secret?

Fun fact: Spandex was just invented 3 years ago in 1958 when this was used in Maidenform bra in 1961. It's now widely used in exercise apparel, cycling jerseys and shorts and swimsuits.

THREE. Formfit Brassieres, 1942

Those days illustrators play a critical role in bringing out the message of the advert, and flat-chested women were not much appreciated as compared to today.

The short poem in the advert shows that how a man sees a woman is important because the fashion adverts those days often involve message like how women could attract men in their bras, dresses, or pants as the following advert below!

FOUR. Montgomery Ward, 1971

"After a long season of hisses and boos, bare your legs. The boys deserve a break"

If this was Gap's short denim pants or other brands' advert today, it would definitely attract a lot of negative responses until it's up as another news on Buzzfeed.

Those days women were taught to wear short pants to give the boys a break, these days women were told to wear longer pants so they won't be raped. Women are always the one to be blamed.

What kind of logic is that? It's simply a wtf moment here.

FIVE. Sanforized, 1963

"The elephant is wrinkled. It's not his fault (awwwwwww). He was made that way. The pants are never wrinkled. They were made that way, too."

This is a clever and creative advert! It just makes me feel so sorry for elephants. No worries elephants, you still look great as always!

That's it for today! I'd collect more of these vintage adverts and make them into different series.

Tell me what do you think!:)
