ONE. Quhji

Photos taken from elle.my by Spiel Chow

Reasons to love it: Malaysian styles that are fused with Japanese elements, they can be a baju Melayu or a kurta (an Indian men's wear)-- a truly One Malaysia spirit, that shouldn't be differentiated and separated from each other. Besides than the asymmetrical design of the tunic, the bath robe inspired coat is a sexy piece from Quhji too (I smell Balenciaga spirit in this design). TBH, if a guy wears this walking in front of me, I'd love to check if he has chest hair... just to feed my curiousity.

What makes Quhji standout: The hat. Without the hat, there's something crucial lost in the whole look, and I'd have overlooked this collection.

TWO. Jonathan Liang

Reasons to love it: I like how he steals the unicorn's purple sparkles to make a piece of frilly tube-top jumpsuit and below-the-knee skirt. It takes a good skill to make such fabric to look high fashion, especially when it is a vibrant purple mallow or a baby blue (from his previous collection). The sheer flowery long dress is a red carpet dress, who should be wearing this? Ahh I would like Kristen Stewart to try this on-- the wearer must be a cool and chic rocker with minimal makeup. The last two pieces have a haute couture feel, with the dresses at this length, plus the calf-length leggings, they are very Parisian chic. Having all said, if you're consider buying one of these two pretty pieces, I suggest taking off the bras, and don't take off the leggings (because I know many people would not wear leggings with it).

What makes Jonathan Liang standout: The silhouette and the material used.

THREE. Zero To Ten

Reasons to love it: The more simple a design looks, the more it takes to make it shines, and I couldn't help but to like almost every piece of this collection. They are somehow loose but they don't appear to be bulky. The edges of a woman are being slightly loosened up so you'd still feel comfortable even if you eat a little bit much today (nahh just kidding of course not because of that).

This collection's style is quite different from their previous collections'. Is Zero To Ten trying to target a different group this time to a younger ladies who love minimal design and sneakers? Minimalism is a trend that might be for a rather niche market, but would not fade over time, especially in Malaysia. As the weather is getting crazier in Malaysia, together with the influence of local fashion bloggers, I can imagine that there will be more fashionistas demand a more comfortable and simple design with a personal twist-- something that makes you look cool even when you're sweating.

What makes Zero To Ten standout: Triple C-- Comfortable, Contemporary and Chic.

FOUR. Man Chien

Reasons to love it: If there is any piece you consider buying as part of your fashion collectibles, Man Chien should be on your list. They are not a piece of design that you could wear again and again as they are highly recognizable but they are definitely a timeless piece that you still can wear after many years. My two most favourite pieces would be the black ink sheer white dresses (the 4th and 5th photo below). I really want to wear them and visit art gallery... in sneakers.

What makes Man Chien standout: Hand drawn garment.

FIVE. Kittie Yiyi

Reasons to love it: Kittie Yiyi's collection makes me feel like riding on a unicorn across the rainbow. These designs are to feed the inner little girl's soul in you. That little girl must be believing in magic, having a unicorn as her imaginary friend and not afraid of darkness, because she shines and cheers people around her. This is also a collection for people who do not want to grow up, and not afraid of being herself. Kittie Yiyi should have a store in Tokyo.

What makes Kittie Yiyi standout: Herself. She is the best ambassador of her own brand because she designs every piece as if she designs for herself that really represent who she really is. I'm looking forward to see more Kittie Yiyissss on the street.

SIX. Cassey Gan

Photos taken from elle.my by Andy Kho

Reasons to love it: Cassey Gan's designs look sophisticated, as they are being juxtaposed with different cuttings, prints and materials. But they are cleverly done, like a piece of beautiful symphony-- with each element is neither being exaggerated nor understated. The asymmetric dresses and tops, the inverted apron-like skirts, and the bottom-frilly calf length dress are among my favourites (especially the 2nd and 3rd piece of the photo above, and the 2nd last piece of the photo below).

What makes Cassey Gan standout: Loud but quiet. The designs of the clothes are loud because of the mix&match but they are not being overdone. It is not for an attention seeker, but someone who is very confident about herself. It is a collection for a girl who says "I might be quiet but that does not mean I can be easily stepped over. Watch out." It is easy to identify a Cassey Gan piece, because it is very Cassey Gan. People recognize her as a rising star, and I raise both hands for that statement.
