Sexy Thick Stitches

While Louis Vuitton is making an exceptionally bold fashion statement by using a video game character in its 'Series 4' advertising campaign film by artists Tetsuya Nomura & Square Enix, there's another element in its Spring/Summer collection that is very bold too-- the whipstitch. Nicolas Ghesquière's SS16 collection is inspired by the video game, so I could really imagine that it's because the heroine is fighting with her bag, smashing her rival until it gets worn out so she's fixing it with the thick stitches. Am I thinking too much? Yes, obviously!

The LV SS16 collection is just perfect for someone who doesn't care about how she will look to others because she just pasted and stitched different materials, fabrics and colors together, her clothes are all about staying comfort being herself. I feel a carefree attitude, that's just what many of us need to learn, and that's what makes fashion fashion.

Just as how Tetsuya Nomura & Square Enix plotted for what Lightning (the fantasy girl with pink hair) would say:

"My clothes were nothing more than armor to stay alive; ‘dressing up’ was a concept I’ve never had. Perhaps that makes me an unseemly choice as ambassador. But this experience has opened my eyes. Fashion isn’t something you’re taught or given; it comes from your own taste and your own choices. It displays the essence of who you are to those around you. It makes me feel excited, a feeling similar to when I venture to unknown lands.”

There's another designer is adoring stitch on his designs too. Guess? He wears fingerless gloves all the time. This is obvious-- Karl Lagerfeld, not for Chanel, but for Fendi. Fendi just got its pockets and bags so thickly stitched that it's just impossible for you to ignore.

Unlike LV, Fendi's stitch looks more carefully planned to me. She looks glamorous because she's been planning what to wear and carry for a long time. It's as if she's going to a very important and special date with someone-- could be a business partner, her boyfriend's parents, or... presenting a speech! I always find stitch very interesting because it could always make something ordinary looks chic and special effortlessly. And of course, whipstitch 'looks' quite easy for someone who doesn't know how to sew like me... I just get my broken teddy bear whipstitched. Now she just looks as chic as the models in Louis Vuitton and Fendi.

HEY STOP IT!

Fine I'll stitch it again.
